Can't help smiling stupidly at myself at how today's events panned out.
In the morning, before my first lecture, Ryan and I after coming off the bus, went over to go exploring in Menzies, the largest building on campus, with I think..... 12 floors. It was interesting.... As we walked along the empty hallways and passed rooms along the hallways, office rooms mainly. The sense that university life wasn't exactly as we envisioned down these narrow, monotonous hallways, hidden from the view and popular uni stereotype of large lecture theatres and tutorial classes, the fact that these hidden hallways resembled hotel rooms rather than our perception of a university struck us hard, as we walked passed each room, peering into the individual lives of professors/teachers/administrative co-ordinators busily working away at their desks, standing up and assorting their files, talking to their other employees or simply sipping a cup of coffee. It was a weird and foreign feeling.
The elevator went haywire, so we raced each other down 8 floor x 2 stair cases each floor = 16 flights of staircases, which was very dizzying. :)
Next week, we promised each other that we would climb to the very top floor of the Menzies building, in which you can apparently see the city and the sea from far far away. YAY, ADVENTURE :D!
After Maths Lecture today, I ran up to Simon and kicked him in the hand whilst he was walking towards the Campus Centre. Then spent an hour w/ him at TAPAS w/ half an hour of him trying to explain physics concepts which didn't seem to click in my quirkiness of a brain. Then the other half an hour was dedicated to our tutor explaining the same concepts to me, which I still derped all the way through.
Also found out I scored below 50% for my first assignment.
You convey my idiosyncrasies ever so concisely, thank you for understanding me, Tumblr.
Self talk, the stuff that keeps me going:
An Idiot is probably not the most accurate word to describe me, I don't believe I am stupid, even if I do feel very small sometimes.
I believe that not understanding a few simple concepts doesn't mean I can't learn them, at a slower rate than everybody else, despitefully.
I understand that my year/academic wise won't be a stroll in the park, especially considering the fact that I've only started living outside the confines of my childhood just about a year ago. I know that up ahead, there's going to be bigger obstructions, let-downs, difficult decisions and tears.
But I just need to remember that, like today, after escaping the pressure of TAPAS and running away to take refuge at the Commerce library (And then hiding myself behind trillions of book shelves - thankyou coverage) and then having a one-on-one contemplation time with himself, I remembered that I can so do this.
Prodigious disposition isn't in my blood, but it's like oppurtunitiy costs in microeco, what I lack in certain disposition, I make up in fighting harder than everybody else for it, fighting for things that mean most to me.
By spending more time on getting my head around concepts that most people won't, I can do what others can't do tomorrow.
I'm excited.
Before training, me, Long, Wang, Kenric, Maddy and Jack all played vball down on the oval :D with a soccer ball! It was fun :) finally, my vball skills serve a purpose in life! Which is pummelling Kenric!
Taek in the afternoon was fun :) 20 mins of non-stop lap running and unco kicking of targets. Sweaty.
We also sparred on the oval for half an hour of so, before going back in to spar so more.
I sparred for my first time today ^_^ I sparred w/ May, she gave me alot of open entries to kick her, but our sparring session mainly consisted of her kicking me and me dodging quickly.
When training ended, Terence came over, placed a guard vest over me and started kicking me.
>_>
I should put a vest on Mish someday, so she can agree to becoming my kicking bag during my free periods at uni.
Herbert: who's guards are these? -points at guards lying beside Terence-
Terence -while doing the splits-: they are mine, don't take them though, because I won't be able to get back up in time to get you.
:)
At one stage, I tried nudging Terence over with my leg but instead, we ended up in a friendly (I think) sort of wrestle (although it did, if you didn't know what we were doing, look like I was bullying him), Terence grabbing onto my bag while still trying to hold his splitting position (he can't do the full splits, just the 150 degree version - making it even harder to balance) and all the while I was using my leg to try and nudge him gently over, whilst clinging onto my bag w/ dear life. In the end, we ended up in a funny sort of tumble, with him successfully nudged out of splitting position and lying on the floor on my feet, with a last desperate attempt to grab my bag from me.
He is so awkward :)
The Taek crew moved to the coffee lounge after training to chill. I played Draw My Thing on Herb's phone, I drew the worst flamingo ever, topped with lovehearts around the screen (Herb is going to kill me if he finds out). Terence really knows how to convey words in picture-form, for the word "sugar", he drew a mug of coffee and then a packet of sugar being poured in, despite the fact that he accidentally (without knowing the rules of the game) wrote "S U G" before I managed to stop him writing the whole word.
Long's honourable mention:
Me: HAVE THE BEST OF FUN, BUST OUT SOME HIP DANCE MOVES ON THE DANCE FLOOOOOOR!
Long: yeah ill bust my hip on the dance floor for sure
Now it's time for me to get off my blog to finish off Marley and Me in bed :) the book I borrowed from the fictional library at our uni! ikr? A FICTIONAL LIBRARY FULL OF COMICS, NOVELS, PICTURE STORY BOOKS, IN A LIBRARY! *stream of lights shines down from the heavens*
I will see ya'll soon, and hopefully in a healthier academic position than the one I'm in now.
Last note to self: Studies before buddies!
Peace in baby.
